A new player is making its mark on the logistics sector.

Jim Tompkins, founder of Tompkins Solutions, recently launched Tompkins Logistics, an end-to-end logistics execution and intelligence company with centralized accountability, fully managed transportation and freight brokerage, along with network design and final-mile delivery.

Tompkins Solutions is a warehouse automation consulting and execution firm that focuses on facility design, network optimization and material handling integration, as well as supply chain technology engineering.

The two are separate corporate entities, with Tompkins serving as chairman for both.

In a statement, the Raleigh, N.C.-based company said Tompkins Logistics introduces a new approach to end-to-end logistics designed to close the “accountability gap” that is in fragmented supply chain operations. “Built on more than five decades of Tompkins supply chain leadership, the company combines logistics execution, network orchestration and AI-enabled intelligence into a single accountable operating model—one built to deliver outcomes, not just services,” the company said.

Tompkins said companies “don’t need another provider managing one piece of their supply chain. They need a partner that can connect the pieces, continuously optimize the network and take accountability for the outcome. That’s the company we built.”

The company said current logistics networks operate through various brokers, carriers, internal teams and warehouses that only optimize their own portion of the process. As a result, customers have to coordinate everything themselves. “Tompkins Logistics was founded to replace that arrangement with one accountable partner: centralized accountability paired with diversified execution, giving customers access to multiple providers, facilities, carriers, modes and fulfillment paths without requiring them to manage the complexity,” the company said.

Regarding the structure of Tompkins Logistics, there are five operational solutions. These include logistics network design and optimization, managed transportation, warehousing and fulfillment, freight brokerage, and final mile delivery. Each is connected by two intelligence capabilities: the supply chain command center and cognitive logistics intelligence.

“Together, they continuously observe network conditions, recommend the next best action and orchestrate execution across providers, learning from every decision they make,” the company said.

In his official biography, Tompkins is described as an international authority on designing and implementing end-to-end supply chains. “He is a serial entrepreneur who has started several businesses; worked with private equity; designed many industrial facilities and automated materials handling systems; implemented many supply chain information technology solutions and worked to enhance the performance of many 3PLs and 3PL clients,” it noted.

Tompkins has led Tompkins Solutions for over 40 years, focusing on helping companies achieve profitable growth while giving him an “insider’s view into what makes great companies even better.” In 2020, he founded Tompkins Ventures LLC, which is a firm that helps executive teams address key issues such as entrepreneurial growth, development prosperity, logistics partnerships, technology and leadership.
