Givenchy Names Marco De Vincenzo as Head of Leather Goods Design

BAGS OF STYLE: Givenchy has appointed Marco De Vincenzo as head of leather goods design, working under creative director Sarah Burton.

The French fashion house confirmed the news following a report on Tuesday by independent media Miss Tweed.

“Working closely with Sarah Burton, Marco De Vincenzo will contribute to accelerating the development of the maison’s leather goods category, bringing his unique vision and expertise to support Givenchy’s next chapter,” the house said in a brief statement.

Givenchy earlier this year introduced the first major handbag of Burton’s tenure, dubbed The Snatch, boasting curved forms echoing a cinched jacket, a waistline or the curves of a bra. Burton has also offered updated versions of the brand’s bestselling Antigona and Voyou bag styles.

De Vincenzo was most recently creative director of Etro, exiting the Italian label in March. During his four-year tenure, he helped to rev up the brand’s accessories category, having honed his expertise in leather goods as a consultant for Fendi.

A former winner of the Vogue Italia “Who Is on Next?” talent search, De Vincenzo has always had an eye for bold colors, labor-intensive clothes, optical effects, rich fabrics and sophisticated embellishments, as expressed by his former, namesake brand launched in 2009.

The label caught the attention of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, the parent company of brands including Givenchy and Fendi, which struck a joint venture with the Rome-based designer in 2014. In April 2021, De Vincenzo bought back his brand from LVMH and his other partner MMGP Srl.
