Boot Barn missed sales expectations in the second quarter, prompting the retailer to lower its guidance for the year.

The Irvine, Calif-based footwear company saw net sales in Q2 2027 increase 15.1 percent to $581.8 million from $505.4 million in the prior-year period. Net income in Q2 was $52.5 million, or $1.73 per diluted share, compared to $42.2 million, or $1.37 per diluted share, in the prior-year period.

These results were in-line with the guidance Boot Barn laid out last quarter, which called for net sales in Q2 at between $572 million and $582 million, representing growth between 13 percent and 15 percent over the prior-year period.

Boot Barn noted that the increase in net sales in Q2 was the result of incremental sales from new stores and the increase in consolidated same store sales. In the second quarter, Boot Barn opened 19 new stores, bringing its total store count to 584 as of Sept. 26.

The company also disclosed that tariff refunds of $2.2 million were recognized in cost of goods sold during the second quarter.

John Hazen, chief executive officer of Boot Barn, said in a statement that he is “pleased” with the company’s second quarter results, as continued revenue growth and merchandise margin expansion contributed to a 26 percent increase in earnings per diluted share.

“Our new stores continue to exceed expectations, with recent openings generating sales above our original projections,” Hazen noted. “This performance reflects the growing national reach of the Boot Barn brand and reinforces our confidence in the company’s long-term expansion opportunity.”

Looking ahead, the company is lowering its yearly guidance to total sales in fiscal 2027 at between $2.565 billion and $2.593 billion, representing growth of 14 percent to 15 percent over fiscal 2026. Net income for the year is now expected to be between $263.6 million and $272.0 million.

This is down from Boot Barn’s previous guidance for the year, which called for net sales between $2.580 billion and $2.625 billion, representing growth of 14 percent to 16 percent over fiscal 2026. Net income for the year was previously expected to be between $267.9 million and $281.0 million.

In the third quarter of 2027, Boot Barn expects total sales of $785 million to $802 million, representing growth of 11 percent to 14 percent over the prior-year period.

The CEO added that the company is “excited” about the holiday season and Boot Barn’s “refreshed merchandise assortments, improved in-store presentations, and a significantly expanded national marketing campaign.”

“Together with the continued momentum in our work business and the relaunch of Boot Barn Workforce, these initiatives provide additional opportunities to drive sales and support our long-term growth,” Hazen said.
