Nike Gives Its Sold-out, Mind-altering Sneaker a New Flyknit Upper

Nike’s Mind franchise focuses on using pressure points to induce feelings of calm and focus before and after competition — and a new construction for the sneaker is about to go wide.

The Nike Mind 002 FK employs the same Flyknit upper used in March on Fragment’s collaboration on the sneaker, switching from the mesh used on the original iteration. The thinner, more flexible material features in a variety of textures throughout along with rough seams and a sparse lacing system with just rows of eyelets.

Nike confirmed that the aesthetic is informed by its ISPA series, which began in 2018 as an experimental division with a focus on sustainability. Its name is short for “Improvise, Scavenge, Protect and Adapt” and releases have included a 2022 glue-free sneaker constructed with just three pieces that can be taken apart at the end of its lifespan for recycling.

Since the Mind 002 and its mule counterpart Mind 002 launched in January, each release has sold out. Chief executive officer Elliott Hill announced in Nike’s most recent earnings report that it’s ramping up production to meet demand for the shoes that use 22 mapped nodules backed by science to alter the wearer’s state of mind.

Release information is still to come for the Mind 002 FK, but it’s expected to launch sometime this year. More to come.
