MILAN — IHG is expanding its presence on Rome’s Via Veneto, the promenade that rose to fame during cinema’s La Dolce Vita era, with its first Kimpton in the Italian capital, which is expected to open in 2029.

The hotel is owned by Castello Sgr’s Rome Hotel Development Fund, a leading Italian asset management company that specializes in alternative investment funds, primarily in real estate, IHG said in a statement.

With the Rome opening, Kimpton will become IHG’s third hotel in the Via Veneto area. In the near term, it is gearing up to open Hotel Alexandra, which is part of the Vignette Collection. IHG already has an InterContinental Rome Ambasciatori Palace within walking distance.

The Kimpton property is expected to comprise 114 rooms, a rooftop bar, restaurant, internal courtyard, wellness facilities, and dedicated meeting and event space. A defining feature of the hotel will be the restoration and reinvention of an existing theater, which will be transformed into a multifunctional arts and events venue, creating a cultural and social hub for both guests and locals.

This latest property is a testament to IHG’s focus on Italy, where the group boasts 50 open and pipeline properties in the country. It also further strengthens the company’s Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Rome, where the hotel will join nine existing properties, including the Six Senses Rome.
