Monrovia — A group of elders and concerned members of the Gold and Diamond Brokers Union (GDBU) has endorsed Omar Sekou Kamara for president of the organization ahead of its upcoming election.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Joseph D. Jallah said their decision was based on what they described as Kamara’s experience, commitment, integrity, and willingness to serve the interests of members.

“We stand before you today as elders and a group of concerned and committed members of this Union to publicly express our support for Mr. Omar Sekou Kamara,” Jallah said.

He said the group believes leadership of the union should go beyond holding office and should focus on listening to members, respecting differing views, promoting unity and collectively addressing challenges confronting the organization.

According to Jallah, the group has observed Kamara’s commitment to transparency, professional development and advocacy on issues affecting members of the union.

He stressed that the endorsement was not intended to undermine any of the other candidates contesting the presidency.

“Our endorsement of Mr. Kamara is not against any individual or group because we respect all candidates who have offered themselves for service,” Jallah said.

He added that the group believes Kamara would provide accessible and accountable leadership while representing members’ collective interests and promoting fairness within the union.

Jallah urged members of the GDBU to participate in the election and cast their ballots for Kamara, saying the union needs leadership focused on unity, progress, transparency and service.

Receiving the endorsement, Kamara thanked the elders and other members for their support and confidence in his candidacy.

He said his team would remain committed to what he described as a “One Union” vision aimed at improving the welfare of members and strengthening their representation within the brokerage sector.

Kamara said his agenda includes efforts to support the provision of clinics, schools and a market hall, while ensuring that members have effective representation before the government and the Ministry of Mines and Energy.

“On behalf of myself and my family, we say thank you for your unwavering support and for giving me and my team the trust to serve you,” Kamara said.

He pledged to remain engaged with union members across the country, from Grand Cape Mount County to Gbokougedeh and Lofa County, saying his team would work to represent members across Liberia.

The upcoming GDBU election is expected to determine the union’s next leadership and direction as candidates campaign for the support of members.
