Railways Hikes Train Fares: 1–2 Paise/Km From Dec 26
by Northlines · NorthlinesNew Delhi, Dec 21: The Railway Ministry on Sunday announced an increase in train fares, effective December 26, 2025. Ordinary class passengers traveling beyond 215 km will pay an additional 1 paise per km, while non-AC classes of mail/express trains and all AC classes will see a 2 paise per km hike.
Officials clarified that monthly season tickets for suburban trains and ordinary class travel up to 215 km will remain unaffected. The ministry said the fare revision is expected to generate ₹600 crore in revenue for the Railways by March 31, 2026.
According to the ministry, a previous fare hike in July 2025 has already generated ₹700 crore in revenue. (Agencies)
