Asks officials to ensure no household is left out, particularly in remote and tribal areas

Shimla, May 4: Deepshikha Sharma, Director, Directorate of Census Operations, Himachal Pradesh, called on Hon’ble Governor Kavinder Gupta at Raj Bhavan, Shimla today and apprised him about the state’s preparedness in connection with the upcoming Census 2027.

During the meeting, the Director briefed the Governor on the modalities of the self-enumeration process, including the digital and mobile-based platforms through which citizens of Himachal Pradesh can register their household data independently and conveniently through the Self-Enumeration Portal (se.census.gov.in). She further informed that the formal launch of the Self-Enumeration drive in Himachal Pradesh is scheduled for June 1, 2026, and will continue until June 15, 2026, during which citizens can log in to the portal using their mobile numbers. This will be followed by the House Listing and Housing Census Field Survey from June 16 to July 15, 2026, which will be conducted across all districts of the state with the aim of ensuring comprehensive coverage of every household—including those in remote, tribal, and snow-bound areas of Himachal Pradesh—leaving no family uncounted in this landmark national exercise.

The Governor expressed keen interest in the progress of Census operations in the state and underscored the importance of public awareness and active participation for the success of the exercise. He emphasized that an accurate and inclusive Census is the foundation of effective governance and equitable distribution of resources.

Shri Kavinder Gupta called upon all residents of Himachal Pradesh to actively participate in the self-enumeration process and cooperate with Census officials to ensure that every individual is counted. He also stressed the need for a robust outreach campaign, particularly in remote and tribal areas of the state, to ensure that no household is left out.

The Governor noted that Census data serves as a critical tool for policy planning, welfare programme implementation, and infrastructure development across sectors, and asked all departments to extend full cooperation to the Census Directorate.

The Director assured the Governor that the Directorate will achieve complete and accurate enumeration through coordinated efforts, effective use of technology, and extensive field outreach, ensuring that every household is covered in this important national exercise.
