A LEARNING support assistant and after-school-club manager at Grand Vaux School, described as a “treasure of a teacher”, has been nominated for the Teacher of the Year award.

Christine Gilroy has been praised for working throughout the school day, from breakfast club through to the after-school club, all while maintaining “a constant smile on her face and an uplifting spirit”.

Nominator Jade Stewart said her son had significantly increased his reading ability since being supported by Ms Gilroy, which she credited entirely to “Miss Gilroy’s amazing support”.

She also praised Ms Gilroy for going above and beyond to support the school show performance, taking on a role as one of its producers.

Ms Stewart said Ms Gilroy was “such a comfort to the children” and expressed her gratitude for the care and support she gave to all her students.

Her dedication both inside and outside the classroom has made her a deserving candidate, said the nominator.
