Google Fi cuts plan prices by 50% to kick off the new year

by · Android Police

It's never a bad thing when you can save money on the essentials. We've seen carriers slash prices on phone plans over the past year, and now it's Google Fi's turn as it drops Unlimited Essentials and Standard plans by 50%. For those that have been looking for a way to save, this might be a good time to switch carriers.

While there aren't many "catches" with this promotion, you will need to bring your own device. And perhaps the big one is that the discount only lasts for 12 months. So, after the year, prices will jump up to the usual rates. The good news is that Google Fi isn't a contract-based carrier, which means you're free to cancel and move to another carrier at any time.

The carrier that can do it all

From a technical standpoint, Google Fi gets it all right, offering powerful connectivity and good coverage. The prices are also fair, and you get extra perks depending on the tier of service that you choose.

One of the more useful ones with the Unlimited Essentials and Standard plans is that you can connect an LTE smartwatch to the plan at no additional cost. The Unlimited Standard plan takes things a step further by offering 25GB of tethered hotspot data, along with data coverage in Canada and Mexico.

How much after the discount?

Google Fi can support up to six lines of service on one plan. The more lines you have, the cheaper the service becomes. You can see some of the options above, with a single line plan starting at $17.50/month, which is extremely affordable. If you need more lines, you can just add more to the plan. A two-line plan can cost as low as $30/month, and a three-line plan can start at $40/month.

After the 12 months, the prices will jump back up to normal. The standard rates aren't that bad, so if you manage to stay, you will want to then take advantage of an upgrade promotions that are available.
