Spider-Man Is Bigger Than the Avengers, and the Box Office Just Proved It

by · GeekTyrant

Spider-Man has spent decades proving he can carry movies, comics, video games, cartoons, toys, and pretty much anything else you can slap a web-covered mask on. Now the box office is making an even crazier argument… Spider-Man may be a bigger brand than The Avengers.

Spider-Man: Brand New Dayis closing in on one of Marvel's most ridiculous box office records, with the Tom Holland-led sequel now on course to surpass Avengers: Endgame at the domestic box office.

Considering Endgame was the culmination of more than a decade of Marvel Cinematic Universe storytelling and brought practically every major MCU hero together, that's a pretty wild achievement for one friendly neighborhood superhero.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has earned an estimated $854.9 million in North America, according to Box Office Mojo. Avengers: Endgame finished its domestic run at $858.3 million.

That puts Spidey roughly $4 million away from passing Endgame and claiming the larger North American total. Unless Brand New Day suddenly falls off a cliff at the box office, Peter Parker looks ready to swing right past Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

The numbers are especially impressive when you remember just how massive Avengers: Endgame was in 2019. The film became a full-blown theatrical event, ultimately earning $2.799 billion worldwide. Of that total, $858.3 million came from North America, while another $1.941 billion came from international markets.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which opened July 31, 2026, hasn't caught Endgame worldwide. The sequel currently sits at approximately $2.22 billion globally, including an estimated $1.365 billion internationally and $854.9 million domestically.

Still, beating Endgame in North America would be a huge deal because of what these two movies represent.

Endgame had the Avengers name, years of MCU buildup, an enormous collection of superheroes, and the payoff to the Infinity Saga. Brand New Day has Spider-Man. Sure, it's a major Marvel production with plenty going for it, but Spider-Man remains the character audiences are buying tickets to see.

Spidey has already beaten the Avengers in another impressive category. Brand New Day became the fastest movie ever to reach $500 million at the North American box office, hitting the milestone after only seven days. Avengers: Endgame needed eight days to reach the same number when it opened in 2019.

One day might not sound like much until you're talking about half a billion dollars. Audience enthusiasm hasn't been limited to ticket sales either. Spider-Man: Brand New Day currently has a 90% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 423 reviews, while its audience score sits at a massive 98%.

People aren't simply showing up because Spider-Man is on the poster. They're apparently having a damn good time with the movie once they're in the theater.

None of this takes away from what Avengers: Endgame accomplished. Its $2.799 billion worldwide haul remains gigantic, and Brand New Day still has plenty of ground to cover before it could challenge that global number.

The domestic race tells a different story, though, and it says something interesting about the power of Spider-Man as a brand.

The Avengers are a collection of Marvel's biggest heroes. Spider-Man only needs Spider-Man. That's been part of the character's strength for generations.

Different actors, different continuities, animation, live-action movies, games, comics, and endless merchandise have kept Peter Parker and the Spider-Man identity in front of audiences around the world.

The character can be rebooted, reinvented, dropped into the MCU, pulled into the Spider-Verse, or handed his own video game, and people keep coming back.

Now Spider-Man: Brand New Day is putting a dollar figure on that popularity. If the movie clears Avengers: Endgame domestically as expected, Spider-Man will have done something that would've sounded borderline insane a few years ago.

The Avengers may be Earth's Mightiest Heroes, but when it comes to individual superhero brands, Spider-Man is looking awfully hard to beat. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters.
