Fire razes over 10 shops in Plateau

by · Daily Post

More than 10 shops in Terminus Market in Jos were destroyed by fire on Saturday night at about 10 pm, after traders had closed for business.

About three months ago, a section of the market was also set ablaze.

Most of the shops affected by the fire, primarily those selling clothes and shoes, were said to have been completely reduced to ashes.

The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained by market authorities, but some victims are of the opinion that it might have been caused by an electrical fault.

A source told DAILY POST that firefighters and emergency responders acted swiftly to contain the blaze, preventing it from escalating into a major disaster.

He further explained that firefighters, including a team from the National Emergency Management Agency, worked alongside the Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, the Federal Fire Service, and the Plateau State Fire Service to bring the fire under control.

According to him, “The coordination and rapid response helped contain the flames, limiting damage and preventing the fire from spreading across the busy commercial hub.”

The market had experienced three separate fires in the past year, destroying goods valued at millions of naira.
