TCN begins restoration of Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, has begun restoration of the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line following the collapse of tower T367 in Yauri, Kebbi State. 

TCN disclosed this in a statement issued by its management on Wednesday, September 23, 2026.

The company said the collapsed tower had been completely dismantled and decommissioned, while the conductors and skywire had been properly aligned in preparation for the next stage of the restoration.

An Emergency Restoration System, ERS, tower has also been moved to the affected location and is ready for installation, TCN said.

According to the company, the installation will be followed by cable stringing and other associated works required to restore the affected transmission line.

The collapse of tower T367 had disrupted bulk electricity transmission through the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi corridor.

DAILY POST reports that TCN declared Force Majeure on the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi transmission line on September 8 following the incident.

The company had said preliminary findings indicated that heavy winds and rainstorms caused the tower to collapse after the line tripped on September 7.

TCN also appealed to electricity consumers and other stakeholders affected by the incident to remain patient while the restoration work continues.
