Governor Uba Sani has disclosed that his administration paid the sum of N90 billion inherited from the administration of his predecessor, former governor Nasir El-Rufai.

Sani disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday.

The governor also noted that his government has attracted $2.5 billion in investment to Kaduna State.

He said: “In the last three years, we have been able to pay over N90 billion of the debt we inherited, and since we came into government, we have not taken any new loans because we believe that we do not have any fiscal space to borrow money.

“As a government, when you come in, you have to inherit both assets and liabilities, so what we did was to look at the fact that we had to pay a lot of money.

“We went round at the beginning and met with the World Bank, while the current Minister of Health, Pate, who worked with the World Bank many years ago, came in to work with me on how to restructure the loan.

“Unfortunately, the World Bank rejected the restructuring of the loan because they believed all the money had been completely drawn before we came in, and in the first week after we assumed office in June 2023, we started repaying the loan.”
