66th Independence: Nigeria worst place to be born – Peter Obi

by · Daily Post

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi, has said Nigeria is the worst place to be born.

Obi made the remark while criticising the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government for worsening the country’s social and economic problems.

In his Independence Day message to mark Nigeria’s 66th anniversary, Obi said that although the ruling party made promises during the 2023 elections, problems such as poverty, insecurity, unemployment and hunger had only worsened.

“Even though the APC government made promises in 2023, our country is still dealing with serious problems in almost every important area of national life,” he said.

Using data on poverty and education, the former Anambra State governor said that more than 140 million Nigerians were living in poverty and facing difficulties, while more than 80 million children were not attending school.

He also expressed concern over the increasing number of bandit attacks and kidnappings, as well as the recent report of 37 young people losing their lives.

Obi also spoke about the country’s food crisis, saying that about 40 million Nigerians could face severe food shortages by the end of the year.

“Today, Nigeria is the worst place to be born. Our youth unemployment is the highest; over 35 million youths are unemployed, and we have one of the worst drug prevalences globally,” he said.
