BP ousts Irish chairman Albert Manifold amid 'serious concerns' about his conduct

OIL GIANT BP has removed its Irish chairman amid “serious concerns” about his conduct.

The company’s senior independent director Amanda Blanc said it was “surprised and disappointed” to learn of governance issues BP “deems unacceptable”. 

Albert Manifold, who is originally from Dublin, joined the company in September 2025 and was appointed chair the next month.

In a statement today, BP said its board decided Manifold “should no longer serve as chair and director with immediate effect”.

“This follows serious concerns raised to the Board related to important governance standards, oversight and conduct,” a spokesperson said.

Shares fell by 6% after his removal was announced.

Blanc, another board member, said Manifold “has helped bring a welcome focus and pace to BP’s transformation”.

“However,” she continued, “the board has been surprised and disappointed to learn of governance oversight and conduct issues it deems unacceptable and has taken decisive action.”

Ian Tyler, corporate executive and UK infrastructure industry leader, has been appointed as the interim chairperson.

A succession process for a permanent chair will be initiated, the company said.
