Man in his 20s arrested over fatal housefire in Edenderry released without charge

A MAN IN his 20s who was arrested in connection with the fatal house fire that killed Mary Holt and her grand-nephew, Tadhg Farrell, has been released without charge. 

A garda spokesperson said that a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, and that investigations are ongoing. 

The man released without charge was arrested on Wednesday 29 April. 

A separate man aged 22 has appeared in court charged in relation to the fatal fire. 

Michael Dunne, with an address in Co Kildare appeared in Tullamore District Court on Friday afternoon charged with two offences of criminal damage by arson and endangerment in relation to the case.

He was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance which is scheduled for 6 May. 

During the brief hearing, the defendant’s legal representative also made a request to the judge for an anonymity order to be granted to the defendant’s legal team.

She said they were a local legal team and they would have “concerns” if they were named in relation to what she described as a “very contentious, dangerous, local feud”.

She also noted that there was no objection from the State’s representatives to the request.

Gardaí made several arrests in relation to the case this week.

The house fire happened on 6 December in Castleview Park in Edenderry. A petrol bomb was thrown through the front window of the house. 

The bodies of Tadgh Farrell (4) and Mary Holt (60) were discovered in the front room of the property.
