Gardaí investigating 2009 murder of Liam Murray begin searching land in Rathfarnham

GARDAÍ INVESTIGATING THE murder of Liam Murray, who was found dead at his home in Rathfarnham in 2009, have begun searching lands in the southside suburb of Dublin.

Liam (42) had been out socialising in the afternoon of St Patrick’s Day 2009 in town. He spent a large part of the day in the Headline Bar on Clanbrassil Street in Dublin 8.

He made his way towards his home at Rockbrook Cottages on Edmonstown Road, driving a black Mitsubishi Pajero, at around 6.20pm, investigations showed.

Liam was last seen that evening, on 17 March 2009. His body was discovered three days later on the morning of 20 March, with bullet wounds to his head and chest.

A mechanic, his nickname was “Blackie” due to the colour of his hands from work. He was 5’10 in height, with a stocky build and short, dark brown curly hair.

Gardaí said over 2000 lines of enquiry have been followed in relation to his murder.

In 2011, two men were arrested in connection with the investigation but were released without charge.

A 2020 inquest into his murder heard Liam had been subject to threats and intimidation for several years leading up to his death.
