The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 finally gives us colourful Joy-Con 2
by Stefan L · tsaNintendo has revealed the first special edition Nintendo Switch 2, and it is gorgeous. The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition Nintendo Switch 2 comes with delightfully green Joy-Con 2 (and a cute little pixel Zelda on the back of one), some triangular detailing on the back, golden details on the Dock and complimentary set of accessories.
This special Switch 2 and all the accessories will be available on 29th October 2026, just ahead of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time’s remake the following week. The special edition Pro Controller with a display stand will be exclusive to the Nintendo Store.
The basic Switch 2 looks boring, let’s be honest, with the black slab tablet now accompanied by all-black Joy-Con 2 controllers, with just the slighted flash of the neon colours of old behind the analogue sticks and on the magnetic connection rail. Even when Nintendo announced new colour variants of the Joy-Con 2, these just recoloured that (what feels like) 3% of the controllers. Having actually colourful Joy-Con 2 again will be so nice… for those that have been patient and can snag this limited edition.
Elsewhere, Nintendo also announced a pair of new amiibo, with Young Link and Young Zelda now sporting the new visual direction from the Ocarina of Time remake, with an in-game reward to give the classic 3D look as a wearable mask.
Finally, you can play as Zelda in a Zelda game – yes, I’m well aware of Echoes of Wisdom, but don’t let that get in the way of a good-bad joke!
