The deceased has been identified as Erin, daughter of Binoj Chanothu Muringothuparambil in Pattikkad. Two others—Aleena, daughter of Shajan Chungath, and Ann Grace, 16, daughter of Saji Parassery—had died earlier.
Nima, 12, is undergoing treatment at Jubilee Mission Hospital.
The accident happened at the Thaikkulam area of the reservoir on Sunday afternoon. The girls, who reached Nima’s house for the festival at Lourdes Matha Church, Peechi, had gone to see the dam when the accident occurred. There were five girls in the group, including Nima’s sister. Four of the girls reportedly slipped from a rock and fell into the reservoir.
Local people rushed to their aid after hearing the desperate cries for help of the fifth girl.
Though the girls, students of St. Clare’s Convent Higher Secondary School, Thrissur, were quickly pulled out from the water, three of the girls were in a critical condition. It is reported that two of the girls fell into the water first, and the other two fell while attempting to rescue them.
