by · The Hindu

The Centre has sanctioned a total of ₹1,059 crore for special assistance to the State to undertake capital expenditure. The sanctioned amount includes ₹795 crore for Vizhinjam International Seaport, apart from assistance for the Kochi metro, the water metro project, and other infrastructure projects. The special assistance is sanctioned under the Special Assistance for State in Capital Investment Scheme (CapEx), which offers interest-free loans to States for capital investment to boost infrastructure development projects. The major attraction of the scheme is that it’s a 50-year interest-free loan and should utilise it in the current financial year.
