Two of the four girls, who fell into Peechi reservoir, die in hospital

The deceased were Aleena, 16, daughter of Shajan Chungath and Ann Grace, 16, daughter of Saji Parassery, both residents of Pattikkad. Two other girls Erin, 16, and Nima, 12 are undergoing treatment at Jubilee Mission Hospital in critical condition.
The accident happened at Thaikkulam area of Peechi reservoir on Sunday afternoon. The girls, who reached Nima’s house for the church festival of Lourdes Matha Church Peechi, had gone to view the dam when the accident occurred. There were five girls in the group, including Nima’s sister. Four of the girls reportedly slipped from a rock and fell into the reservoir Local people rushed to their aid after hearing desperate cries for help of the fifth girl.
It is reported that two of the girls fell in first, and the other two followed while attempting to rescue them. All of them are students of St. Clare’s Convent Higher Secondary School, Thrissur.
Local residents, who acted quickly in the rescue efforts, stated that three of the girls were unconscious when pulled from the water.
