Injured Nick Knowles latest BBC Strictly Come Dancing video update offers huge hope for weekend show

Fans of Strictly Come Dancing have been on edge after celebrity contestant Nick Knowles injured his shoulder on Sunday - but footage from rehearsals has offered hope

Nick Knowles has been spotted without his arm in a sling after injury risked his place in Strictly Come Dancing.

The 62-year-old home improvement heartthrob is one of the celebrities taking part in the long-running BBC dance competition - where he has been paired with professional dancer Luba Mushtuk, 34. But disaster struck the DIY SOS star when he injured himself while changing the tyre of a car over the weekend.

Nick was left with his arm in a sling after injuring his shoulder and missed out on hours of training while his condition was assessed. However, the TV host has now been shown without his arm being held up and he has been back in the rehearsal hall with Luba after being given the all clear to compete this weekend.

Footage showed Nick hard at work mastering his next set of dance moves during a segment on BBC Two's Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two. He was shown moving both his arms and twirling his dance partner around.

Addressing the cameras, Nick said: "Luba has been extraordinary. From the moment she knew I was injured she has been looking at alternative ways. She must have rebuilt this dance ten times." And the professional dancer herself added: "He is looking incredibly well in hold. He has potential in ballroom!"

Meanwhile a source told The Sun: “Nick is elated that he is being given another chance at getting back on the dancefloor and is focused on his recovery. Nick is in the best hands and will be focussed on getting better before going back into rehearsals. He has absolutely loved the Strictly experience so far so knowing he is still part of the show makes him feel incredibly happy.”

During last weekend's launch show, Nick and Luba drew a low score of 15 from the judges after they danced a Jive to the sound of Starship's song We Built This City. This weekend, they will perform a American Smooth while the Strictly house band sing a rendition of Parklife by Blur.

Nick shared his joy at the fact he will be able to continue his Strictly dream this weekend by updating fans via social media on Thursday. He wrote on X: "It’s official and I can’t quite believe it but we are dancing on Saturday! Luba is a miracle worker and so patient - we’ve had two days to learn the dance! American Smooth here we come."

Earlier this month, Nick explained why he wanted to take part in the hit dance show. He said: “I’m so old, if I left it any longer I wouldn’t be able to. I think this is my last chance physically to be able to do it, so that was a good reason.

“But because we did a Strictly and DIY SOS collaboration last year, built a place, an all-ability drama dance school up in the North East, I then begged [show judge] Anton [Du Beke] to get me on the show.”
