Nick Knowles will take to the Strictly dance floor on Saturday night after being signed off by doctors.

The DIY SOS host, 62, faced an anxious wait to be declared fit to perform with partner Luba Mushtuk this week, after injuring his shoulder. But sources said he was given the green light yesterday.

And they revealed he will even attempt a lift during his routine in spite of the injury - which has forced him to have his arm in a sling this week. One source said: “Nick and Luba’s attitude is very much that the show must go on, and they were thrilled when he was given the go ahead. They are even going to attempt a lift.

“Luba has told Nick that the move she was planning for the routine can be made safe for him - so as it stands they are still going to perform that. Nick is fully on board because the last thing he wants is the sympathy vote.

“Now that he’s been told he can perform this week he is determined to come out all guns blazing and give the routine everything he’s got. He and Luba are now rehearsing at Elstree to help them to make up the time they have lost this week.”

Last week saw Nick - clad in a sparkly high vis vest - perform a jive with partner Luba. He was praised for the judges for his energy following the upbeat routine. But his second performance was thrown into jeopardy after he damaged his shoulder changing a tyre on his Range Rover.

The source added: “Nick was really irritated to have injured himself so soon in the competition - especially doing something he could have avoided. It was a huge sigh of relief for him when the doctors said he could dance. Now it’s a race against time to get the routine as good as it can be by Saturday.”

Nick will perform an American smooth to Blur's Parklife on Saturday evening's show. Currently, DIY SOS presenter Knowles and his partner Luba Mushtuk are in third last place on the leaderboard with 18 points after their energetic jive to Starship's We Built This City. They're followed by Paul Merson and Pete Wicks who are joint second last on 17 points, and Toyah Willcox who has the lowest score of just 12 points.

Nick previously told how he grew up around dancing - and danced himself until his father told him to stop. "I grew up around it. I’m from a family of five kids on a council estate in Southall. "I used to join in a bit, but my dad was old-fashioned and when I got to six or seven he was like, 'That’s enough of that. You’re playing rugby now.'"
