Private investigator begins evidence

Counsel assisting Juliet Curtin has opened the public inquiry by asking private investigator Shane De Kauwe about his professional experience.

He was an Australian Federal Police officer for about a decade, and attained a law degree while studying at night, but never practised as a solicitor. He also published a textbook for investigators, specifically about fraud investigations.

De Kauwe is now a licensed private investigator, and works in “risk services”.

“I’ve started helping clients to avoid fraud in the first place, and avoid risk by having better systems in place,” he said.
