SwapGlobal secures new funding to scale institutional OTC trading and strengthen risk management
· crypto.newsBacking from Marcel Boekhoorn, W Group and Kenzoll Capital will support trading capacity, while former Flow Traders executive Fedja Terzic joins as Chief Risk Officer.
SwapGlobal has announced a new investment backed by Dutch investor Marcel Boekhoorn, W Group Founder and President Volodymyr Nosov, and Amsterdam-based Kenzoll Capital. The funding will support the U.S. OTC derivatives provider’s trading infrastructure as it prepares to handle more institutional contracts across private-market shares, foreign equities, computing capacity and digital assets.
SwapGlobal has also appointed Fedja Terzic as Chief Risk Officer, adding an executive with experience at Flow Traders and One Trading to oversee risk management as the company’s derivatives business expands.
The value of the investment has not been disclosed.
SwapGlobal will use the financing to increase trading and working capital, providing additional capacity to manage derivatives positions for hedge funds, asset managers and other eligible institutional investors.
Managing derivatives exposure without direct asset ownership
SwapGlobal provides institutional investors with OTC derivatives linked to assets they may not wish to hold directly.
These include shares in private companies ahead of an IPO, non-U.S. equities, computing capacity and digital assets.
Through the derivatives structure, clients can take positions based on the underlying market exposure without purchasing or taking custody of the assets themselves.
The company manages the resulting trading positions and hedges its exposure through crypto trading platforms.
Eligible clients do not need to establish their own crypto wallets, offshore exchange accounts or dedicated digital asset trading infrastructure to access these contracts.
Client collateral is maintained with qualified custodians.
This operating structure is central to SwapGlobal’s plans to serve a larger institutional customer base.
Trading capital supports a broader contract portfolio
The financing is intended to increase the volume of derivatives contracts SwapGlobal can support.
As the company takes on additional positions, it requires sufficient trading capital to manage the corresponding exposure and working capital to operate the business.
SwapGlobal is preparing its first transactions in pre-IPO shares, with plans to extend its activity across other asset categories.
The investment represents an initial step in a longer-term capital plan, which the company expects to scale alongside the growth of its derivatives portfolio.
René van Kesteren, Founder and CEO of SwapGlobal, said:
“With these investors on board, we can serve institutional clients within the U.S. regulatory framework much faster with OTC derivatives on pre-IPO shares, compute and digital assets. The trading capital and additional working capital give us room to move into the next phase of growth.”
Fedja Terzic joins as Chief Risk Officer
SwapGlobal’s appointment of Fedja Terzic adds senior risk management experience to the company during its expansion.
Terzic is a certified actuary (AAG) and holds the Financial Risk Manager designation from GARP.
He spent six years at Flow Traders, progressing to Global Head of Risk & Middle Office and Managing Director.
He subsequently joined One Trading, where he served as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Risk Officer. One Trading is Europe’s first MiFID-regulated crypto derivatives exchange.
His background includes oversight of trading operations and risk functions in markets where pricing, liquidity and counterparty exposure require close management.
The appointment accompanies SwapGlobal’s efforts to increase its derivatives capacity and support a wider range of institutional transactions.
Kenzoll partnership brings trading capabilities together
The new investment follows a previously announced strategic partnership between SwapGlobal and Kenzoll Capital.
As part of that relationship, a digital asset market-making business associated with Kenzoll has been integrated into SwapGlobal’s trading setup.
The technology and team now operate within SwapGlobal, bringing derivatives pricing and risk management activities into the same organization.
Corné Melissen, Founder of Kenzoll Capital, said:
“Our digital asset market-making business has been part of SwapGlobal’s trading setup. The technology and the team that run it now sit inside SwapGlobal, so the company can set prices for its derivatives and manage the risk on them in one place.”
The arrangement gives SwapGlobal direct access to the trading capabilities used to support its derivatives business as it prepares to expand beyond its initial crypto-focused activities.
W Group backs institutional market infrastructure
Volodymyr Nosov’s participation brings W Group into the investment alongside Marcel Boekhoorn and Kenzoll Capital.
W Group operates a global ecosystem of financial and technology businesses with more than 40 million clients across 150 countries.
The group’s involvement reflects its interest in infrastructure connecting established financial services with digital asset markets.
Volodymyr Nosov, Founder and President of W Group, said:
“Digital assets are moving from the edges of finance into the mainstream, and institutional capital needs infrastructure it can trust. Investors need partners who can offer clear structures and proper risk controls. SwapGlobal is building a U.S.-compliant, transparent way for institutions to take exposure to these markets, and that is why we are backing the company.”
SwapGlobal’s immediate priority is to prepare its first pre-IPO derivatives transactions and increase the institutional trading capacity available through its platform.
