Eurozone industrial production falls for third straight month
by Benjamin Chiou · ShareCastIndustrial production across the eurozone unexpectedly declined in August, according to data on Thursday from Eurostat, with output falling for the third consecutive month on the back of heavy falls in Belgium and Ireland.
Seasonally adjusted industrial production across the single currency bloc fell by 0.5% month-on-month, following declines of 0.3% in July and 0.1% in June.
Industrial output has now been falling after growing for four months straight between February to May.

Meanwhile, industrial production was down 1.1% when compared with August 2025, a steeper annual decline than the 0.3% recorded in July.
The monthly contraction was driven by a 2.7% slump in the production of non-durable consumer goods, while output of intermediate goods fell by 0.8% and energy production declined by 0.6%.
However, capital goods production increased by 0.4%, while durable consumer goods output edged up 0.2%.
Among eurozone member states, Belgium recorded the largest monthly decline at 5.1%, followed by Ireland at 3.1% and Portugal at 2.0%. Output also fell in Italy (-1.3%), Spain (-0.8%) and France (-0.3%), although Germany bucked the trend with a 0.4% increase.
The strongest monthly increases were recorded in Estonia (+4.3%), the Netherlands (+2.6%) and Luxembourg (+2.5%).
