Optimi Health Eyes Australian Growth, Psychedelic Pipeline and Regulatory Catalysts

by · The Markets Daily

Optimi Health (NASDAQ:OPTH) outlined its commercial strategy for natural psilocybin and other psychedelic compounds, highlighting its operations in Australia, clinical-development plans and potential regulatory opportunities in Canada and the United States.

During a presentation, an Optimi representative said the company was founded in 2020 and operates a production facility in Princeton, British Columbia, with offices in Vancouver and La Jolla, California. The company began by focusing on natural psilocybin, which it grows, extracts and formulates into capsules at its British Columbia site.

The representative described the facility as a GMP, vaccine-level operation and said Optimi has developed a consistent natural-psilocybin product from a selected mushroom strain. The company said it can export products for research purposes to organizations that hold the required licenses, including in the United States and United Kingdom.

Australia Provides Initial Commercial Market

Optimi said it is currently supplying 26 clinics in Australia, where clinical access to psychedelic treatments opened in 2024. The company expects that figure to rise to about 100 clinics over the next year, though the representative characterized current revenue as relatively small because of the limited number of patients treated per clinic.

In Australia, Optimi’s product is exported from Canada, distributed through local pharmacies and administered in clinical settings. The company said patients are being reimbursed for both treatment time and medicine, describing the market as a potentially significant real-world case study for natural psilocybin.

The company said the cost of its product to patients ranges from CAD$300 to CAD$500, depending on dosage. However, the representative noted that therapist-guided session time, rather than the drug itself, represents the larger cost component of psychedelic treatment.

Clinical Programs and New Compounds

Optimi said it recently acquired a Phase II trial related to natural psilocybin and a Phase III MDMA trial. The representative said the Canadian studies could potentially support later U.S. development work, with a possible commercial timeline around 2028 if trials proceed as planned.

The company is also advancing an ibogaine manufacturing program. According to the presentation, Optimi expects to have ibogaine available by year-end primarily for research use. The representative said demand for information about ibogaine has increased following U.S. policy attention toward psychedelic treatments, particularly for veterans.

Optimi said it holds Canadian authorization that could allow it to produce several psychedelic compounds, including psilocybin, MDMA, LSD-related products and DMT alternatives. The company’s current focus remains natural psilocybin, while it views MDMA and ibogaine as additional areas of potential expansion.

Regulatory Developments in Focus

The presentation emphasized the importance of regulatory changes in Canada and the United States. In Canada, the company pointed to pending legislation that could broaden access beyond the country’s existing Special Access Program, which the representative described as difficult for patients to navigate.

The company said a Canadian member of Parliament sponsoring the proposed legislation toured Optimi’s Princeton facility in September. According to the representative, the legislation is intended to shift access decisions more directly toward patients and physicians.

In the U.S., Optimi said it is monitoring Food and Drug Administration, Department of Health and Human Services and Drug Enforcement Administration activity related to psychedelics. The representative discussed the possibility of future rescheduling but stressed that the company is not relying on unconfirmed reports or a specific political outcome.

Optimi also cited state-level developments, including medicinal-availability moves in New Mexico and existing programs in Colorado and Oregon. The company said federal regulatory changes could be important because insurance coverage for therapist-administered sessions remains limited in state programs.

Capital Position and Ownership

Optimi said it had approximately CAD$9.2 million following a recent financing and has access to an equity line of credit. The representative said its planned clinical trials will require more capital than the company currently holds, but described the financing approach as intended to limit dilution.

The company said affiliated founding families, family offices and other aligned investors collectively own more than 50% of its shares. Optimi recently moved from a Canadian Securities Exchange listing to a U.S. listing, which the representative said supports its U.S. regulatory and commercial ambitions.

Looking ahead, Optimi identified Australian clinic expansion, progress in its Phase II psilocybin and Phase III MDMA programs, ibogaine research supply and evolving psychedelic regulations as key potential milestones.
