Digital sales made up 54.6% of total Nintendo (NTDOY) FY26 software revenue
Digital continues to grow as the popular way to buy Nintendo games.
by Donovan Erskine · ShacknewsNintendo’s latest earnings report revealed that players continue to adopt digital as their preferred way to acquire games. Digital sales accounted for 54.6 percent of all of Nintendo’s software revenue during the latest fiscal year.
The information can be found on page six of Nintendo’s FY26 earnings report. Out of the 407.6 billion yen ($2.6 billion USD) that Nintendo made in software revenue during the fiscal year, 54.6 percent of it came from digital sales. This represents a 1.1 percent increase from the previous year, which saw digital sales account for 53.5 percent of software revenue.
The numbers suggest a continued growth in the adoption of digital game purchases over physical. Nintendo has continued to offer both on the Nintendo Switch 2, though the company is set to introduce a variable pricing model that will see some digital games cost less than their physical counterparts.
Nintendo’s software revenue was up overall compared to the 2025 fiscal year, with the sales of Switch 2 games like Pokemon Pokopia contributing to that feat. Although there was positive news in the company’s latest earnings report, Nintendo’s forecast for the coming fiscal year seems bleak.
