Xbox console prices to increase this August

Microsoft is raising the cost of its Xbox line of hardware, except for the 2TB model, which the company will discontinue.

Microsoft announced this morning that the price of Xbox consoles will go up effective August 1, 2026. All 512GB models will increase by $100, while 1TB models will jump by $150. Unfortunately, the 2TB model will be discontinued.

“Unfortunately, console storage and memory prices have increased by more than 2.5x and we expect another doubling by the fall of 2027,” Microsoft said in a post on Xbox Wire. "The entire consumer electronics industry is struggling with the current components crisis, but the effects are particularly hard on consoles. Unlike phones, computers, speakers, and other consumer devices, consoles are typically not sold at a profit, but instead for less than they cost to make.”

This is the second time Microsoft has increased the price of the Xbox Series line. The first hike went into effect last October, when prices went up by between $20 to $70 depending on the model you wanted to buy.

Microsoft isn’t the only console manufacturer raising prices. Sony increased the price of all PS5 SKUs earlier this year, and Nintendo announced that its Switch 2 will go up as of September 1, giving consumers ample time to buy it at its current price.
