Four Girls, One Bake Sale, and a Lesson in True Nachas

A Daughter Watching Her Mother
All summer, Leba watched her mother, a special educator in Monsey a devoted member of Keren Yeshuas advisory board, pour her heart into helping children find the right school. She saw the phone calls, the late nights, and most of all, the refusal to give up on even one child.
Leba didn’t have a budget or special connections. She simply had a heart that was paying attention.
A girl her own age was facing the possibility of sitting out tenth grade because she couldn’t find a school.
Leba wasn’t going to just feel bad. She was going to do something.
From an Idea to an Oven
She rallied her friends from Naaleh High School—Zahava P., Zahava M., and Devorah—and they came up with an idea: a bake sale for Keren Yeshua.
Apple-shaped glazed cookies. Honey cake with streusel. Sugar cookies. Everything homemade, carefully wrapped, and beautifully presented.
And when it was over, four teenage girls had raised nearly $800 to help Jewish children find their place in yeshiva.
Kids Helping Kids
What makes this story so special is the purity behind it.
These girls saw a child who needed help, and they chose to care. They didn’t wait to be asked. They didn’t wonder whether someone else would step in.
They simply acted.
That is the heart of Keren Yeshua: standing alongside families, listening, advocating, negotiating, finding resources, and doing everything possible to ensure that no child is left without a place to learn, grow, and thrive.
Behind every tuition challenge is a child. And behind every child is a future filled with potential—and the hope of true Yiddishe nachas.
A Sweet New Year
As Yom Kippur approaches, we daven for a year of health, bracha, hatzlacha, and nachas from our children.
There is something especially beautiful about beginning the year by helping another Jewish child.
The kindness of these girls is a sweet wafting scent that pierces our hearts and, we hope, the heavens.
Their example reminds us that sometimes all it takes is a caring heart and the courage to act.
