After many years of not visiting the United States, business magnate and philanthropist Lev Leviev is currently touring New York.

Leviev, who was born in the Soviet Union, is credited with fueling the revival of Jewish life after the fall of the Iron Curtain. He heads the Federation of Jewish Communities in CIS, has founded the Or Avner Chabad network of schools and funded many communal spaces.

This week, he visited the Ohel of the Rebbe, whom he has the merit to meet. He also broke ground on a new Jewish campus in Queens for the Bukharian Jewish community.

On Thursday, he visited Chabad-Lubavitch Headquarters at 770 Eastern Parkway in Crown Heights, accompanied by his daughter Chagit and son-in-law Gavriel Sofiev and his son Yehoshua Leviev.

770 is where Leviev first met with the Rebbe and received his blessing and business advice for his now sprawling business empire that began with diamonds.

Leviev met with Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky, the Rebbe’s Mazkir, who heads Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch and Machne Israel, and his son Rabbi Shmaya Krinsky, Executive Director of Machne Israel, the social services arm of Chabad-Lubavitch.

They discussed the growing reach of Chabad Shluchim and the Rebbe’s enduring legacy worldwide. Rabbi Yehuda Krinsky thanked him for his long-standing support.

At 770, Leviev toured the Agudas Chassidei Chabad Library with director Rabbi Sholom Ber Levine, and the WLCC communications room, where they were given a tour by Rabbi Chaim Boruch Halberstam and Rabbi Mendy Eisenbach.

He also visited the ever-growing Lubavitcher Yeshiva building on Crown Street, where he met with principal Rabbi Yosef Simpson and director Rabbi Yossi Langzam.
