MIRI (Nov 1): The Miri Trade Fair (Mitraf) 28 is the ‘springboard’ for further growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs), said Miri mayor Adam Yii.

With over 80 local SMEs participating in Mitraf 28 this year, he deemed the annual fair as an invaluable platform to provide business networking and support for these small businesses.

“The fair allows entrepreneurs to connect directly with consumers, expand their reach and drive business growth in our city,” he said in his speech at the launching of the event yesterday.

Touching on online shopping which has become dominant in the retail industry, Yii said this has changed consumers’ behaviour with an increase in online purchases and fewer visits to physical stores.

“With online shopping rapidly growing, we can see a shift in how consumers interact with retail. This has presented challenges for traditional retailers, but one which can also open new opportunities for them to expand their sales globally.

“Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming business operations worldwide. Here in Miri, businesses can leverage AI tools to better optimise their operations.”

By rethinking their business strategy plans and embracing e-commerce and digital solutions, Yii said such technology adoption would allow local businesses to move forward and stay relevant in the global marketplace.

“The diversity of products and services showcased here at Mitraf 28 reflects the dynamic spirit of our city. It is through events like this that we can support our local business talents while simultaneously attracting visitors and boost tourism.”

Also present at the event’s opening ceremony were state Transport Minister Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin, Sarawak Vehicle Dealers Association chairman Pang Kang Leung, Councillor Jeffery Phang, and See Hua Marketing Sdn Bhd Miri branch manager Nicky Chua.

Running till Nov 3 at Permaisuri Imperial City Mall and Imperial Mall, Mitraf 28 also features cultural performances and a grand lucky draw.
