MIRI (Jan 2): A foreign man was apprehended on Monday by a Telekom Malaysia (TM) contractor on suspicion of being involved in the theft of telecommunications cables along the roadside in Manong, Niah near here.

Miri police, in a Facebook post, said initial investigations indicated that three men were involved in stealing TM-owned fibre optic cables in the area.

“However, two of them managed to flee the scene. A sack containing aluminium pieces weighing 3.3kg, was also seized to be used as case exhibits,” said the post.

The contractor later brought the suspect to the Batu Niah police station for further action, and the case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code.

Miri police urged the public to avoid involvement in criminal or illegal activities, and encouraged anyone with information to come forward to assist authorities in curbing crime in the district.
