KUCHING (Oct 31): The Kuching Low-Carbon Gas Hub is projected to draw investments of up to RM200 billion into Sarawak, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Speaking at Petroleum Sarawak Berhad’s (Petros) seventh anniversary dinner here last night, Abang Johari said the Kuching Low Carbon Gas Hub would serve as a cornerstone of Sarawak’s vision for a sustainable future.

“Building on the foundation set by the Sarawak Gas Roadmap, this initiative will bring natural gas to Kuching, develop world class carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure, and unlock offshore gas development in Western Sarawak.

“The Kuching Low-Carbon Gas Hub, complemented by critical infrastructure such as a new deep-sea port, is positioned to attract investments of up to RM200 billion into Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari said that the offshore port, located near Tanjung Embang, will provide greater depth to accommodate larger vessels, thereby supporting the development of a new Kuching port.

“(Sarawak Deputy Premier) Datuk Amar Douglas (Uggah Embas) has been tasked with developing the offshore harbour port in Kuching.

“If Shanghai can do it, so can Kuching. This is something new, a new dimension altogether in port construction,” he added.
