Finished Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen and have…questions? The buzzy new Netflix horror series had a truly shocking ending, which I’m going to assume you’ve watched if you made your way here. But quick recap so we’re all on the same page…

Netflix

Rachel and Nicky make it to the altar—despite a curse that dictates she’ll die if they’re not soulmates. However, Nicky doesn’t say his vows and the curse jumps to his family–causing all the non-soulmated couples at the wedding to bleed out and die.

In fact, pretty much everyone who isn’t married to their soulmate dies—except for Rachel (who becomes The Witness—destined to live forever and witness future weddings in Nicky’s family tree) and Nicky himself.

So…why didn’t Nicky die? It’s clear he and Rachel aren’t soulmates, but my personal theory? While Rachel didn’t believe she and Nicky were soulmates by the time they got married, he did believe, which ended up sparing his life.

Showrunner Haley Z Boston even alluded to this in an interview with RadioTimes, saying "It makes sense to me that Nicky would still believe she's his soulmate. He's such a romantic, and ultimately, I think he's doing what he thinks is the right thing.”

Got it!
