Here’s How ‘Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen’ Ends, for Everyone Who Needs to Know

Rachel and Nicky Go Through With Their Wedding (Kinda)

· Cosmopolitan

POV: you’re watching Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen on Netflix, you have a feeling that something very bad is, in fact, going to happen, and at this point you cannot wait one more second to find out what. The show comes to a shocking conclusion in Episode 8, but if you a) have lingering questions, or b) you’re a “read the last page of the book first” kind of person, here’s what happens. Hint: it’s v. bad.

Netflix

Rachel realizes that she’s the latest in a long line of cursed family members. And said curse is very specific: if you don’t truly think the person you marry is your soulmate, you die a very gruesome death involving blood pouring from your eyeballs. And if you decide to ditch the wedding last minute, the curse passes onto your jilted fiancé’s bloodline. Not ideal!

Rachel spends much of the season worrying about whether she and Nicky are soulmates, but ultimately decides to go through with their wedding ceremony. Only…

Nicky Rejects Rachel at the Altar

Netflix

After Rachel gives an emotional speech all about her and Nicky being soulmates, he decides, actually? Maybe he doesn’t want to do the whole marriage thing. Rachel understandably spirals, both because the curse will now jump to his family, and also because she’s been telling him about said curse this entire time. And turns out he didn’t believe her.

All the Guests at the Wedding Start Dying

Netflix

Pretty much everyone starts gushing blood from their eyeballs at the reception—meaning the cursed has officially jumped to Nicky. And not just him, his entire family, including people who got married years prior and presumably weren’t each other’s soulmates after all. Even worse, blood starts pouring from Victoria’s eyes—meaning she never really thought Nicky’s dad was her soulmate.

Nicky Says His Vows and Rachel Dies (Well, “Dies”)

Netflix

In a last-minute attempt to save his mom (and his sister Portia, who secretly got married in Vegas to a guy that definitely wasn’t soulmate material), Nicky basically forces Rachel to complete the ceremony by finishing his vows. But! This does nothing to stop the curse, because Rachel—who clearly no longer believes Nicky is her soulmate—starts bleeding from her eyeballs and then goes outside and collapses in the snow.

Nell, Jules, and Nicky Survive

Netflix

This is where things get a little confusing. Nell and Jules survive because they’re clearly each other’s soulmates—which is sweet and slightly ironic since they were gearing up for a divorce. But it’s unclear why Nicky survived the curse since he got married to someone who wasn’t his soulmate. My personal theory? That Nicky genuinely believed Rachel was his soulmate, which saved him. Showrunner Haley Z Boston alluded to this in an interview with RadioTimes, saying "It makes sense to me that Nicky would still believe she's his soulmate. He's such a romantic, and ultimately, I think he's doing what he thinks is the right thing.”

Rachel Becomes the New Witness

Netflix

The Witness dies at the wedding reception and Death makes Rachel his new witness (the old Witness helpfully leaves her a note saying “you’re next”). Meaning, she comes back to life, wanders around trying to find her lighter, and then tells Jules’ son that one day she’ll witness his wedding. The show ends with her driving off in The Witness’ truck singing along to the radio.
