TL;DR: CMCC Global is bringing two existing fund strategies into tokenized securities issued through Tether’s Hadron infrastructure and Bitfinex Securities under El Salvador’s rules.

The tokenization of financial products is moving beyond Treasury bills and cash-like instruments. Investment manager CMCC Global has announced plans to represent interests in two digital-asset funds as tokens through infrastructure supplied by Tether and a regulated securities venue operated by Bitfinex.

The funds are called Crest and the Liberty Bitcoin Accumulation Fund, or LBAF. CMCC describes the offerings as fund-of-funds structures under El Salvador's digital-asset framework, with issuance and token management on Hadron by Tether and distribution through Bitfinex Securities.

Two strategies, two ways to measure returns

Crest is denominated in U.S. dollars and aims to outperform Treasury-bill yields. LBAF instead measures performance in Bitcoin and advertises a target annualized net return of 8% to 12% in BTC terms. Those are investment objectives, not guaranteed payments to token holders.

That distinction is especially important for the Bitcoin-denominated vehicle. An investor could accumulate more BTC units under one strategy yet still see the U.S. dollar value of their investment fall if Bitcoin's market price declines. Strategy, currency of account and liquidity are separate risks.

CMCC says the proposed tokens represent economic interests in the underlying fund shares. The structure is designed so tokens are created against corresponding shares and destroyed upon redemption. It remains a managed investment product with legal and operational conditions, not a permissionless token whose ownership automatically entitles anyone to the underlying assets.

Regulated access rather than open circulation

The announcement describes identity checks, anti-money-laundering requirements and whitelisted addresses for eligible self-custody. Bitfinex Securities is expected to provide issuance, distribution and secondary trading facilities under the applicable framework.

An institutional investor, BTCS S.A., has agreed in principle to provide an anchor allocation described as a three-digit amount of Bitcoin, although the exact commitment has not been disclosed. That is materially different from a public disclosure that a specific number of coins has already been transferred into the fund.

The stated issue price is $10 per Crest token and 0.0001 BTC per LBAF token. Neither unit price should be confused with proof of portfolio returns or uninterrupted secondary-market liquidity.

If the offerings attract sustained investors, they could show how blockchain settlement fits into professionally managed crypto strategies without dismantling the familiar structure of a regulated fund. The first hurdle, however, is successful issuance and ongoing administration. Technology can make transfer records programmable; it cannot eliminate investment losses, valuation disputes or the need for transparent fund governance.
