‘Wicked: For Good’ Holds U.K.-Ireland Box Office as ‘Zootopia 2’ Pounces Into Second

Disney’s animated sequel “Zootopia 2” bowed in second place with $7.8 million.
Lionsgate U.K.’s “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t” placed third with $797,450, lifting its cumulative to $7.2 million. Event cinema continued its strong run as CinemaLive’s “Westlife – Royal Albert Hall (25th Anniversary Concert)” opened in fourth position with $694,430. Picturehouse Entertainment’s “Pillion” rounded out the top five with $458,630.

Further down the chart, Paramount’s “The Running Man” earned $351,770 in seventh for a total of $5.7 million, while StudioCanal’s “Nuremberg” generated $329,200 in eighth, lifting its cumulative to $3.4 million. NT Live’s “The Fifth Step – NT Live 2025” debuted at No. 8 on $266,390.
Disney’s “Predator: Badlands” placed ninth with $191,150, for a total of $7 million. Paramount’s “A Paw Patrol Christmas” completed the top 10 with $136,580 and a cumulative $1.1 million.
A steady flow of year-end arrivals hits U.K. and Ireland cinemas this week, beginning Wednesday with Trafalgar Releasing’s concert film “Monsta X: Connect X in Cinemas,” featuring the K-pop group recorded under the direction of Yeji Lee and Yoondong Oh.
Thursday brings Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Telugu-language “Akhanda 2,” the latest Dreamz Entertainment title, alongside Trafalgar Releasing’s presentation of “The Doors: When You’re Strange,” which returns the Jim Morrison–fronted band to the big screen via restored archival material.
The weekend sees a broad and busy slate. Munro Film Services opens “A Christmas Carol,” a star-driven reinterpretation directed by Jacqui Morris and David Morris and led by Simon Russell Beale, Martin Freeman, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Kaluuya and Andy Serkis. Universal counters with “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” Emma Tammi’s sequel to the hit videogame adaptation, rolling out widely at 300-plus sites. A24 launches David Freyne’s drama “Eternity,” starring Elizabeth Olsen and Miles Teller, also across 300 locations.
Lionsgate U.K. unleashes Quentin Tarantino’s massively anticipated “Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair,” while Park Circus reissues Billy Wilder’s Hollywood noir “Sunset Boulevard” in a 75th-anniversary 4K restoration and Ron Howard’s “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” in its 25th-anniversary rerelease. Curzon offers another classic revival with Jean Vigo’s “L’Atalante.”
The limited-release corridor includes BUFF Studios’ “Magazine Dreams,” Netflix’s investigative doc “Cover-Up,” A24’s rom-com “Eternity,” teen doc “Folktales” from Dogwoof, MetFilm Distribution’s political documentary “Prime Minister,” Jafar Panahi Palme d’Or winner “It Was Just an Accident” from Mubi, and We Are Parable’s migrant drama “Dreamers.” Action thriller “Son of the Soil” and Bollywood actioner “Dhurandhar,” starring Ranveer Singh, are also opening.
Saturday closes with Piece of Magic Entertainment’s seasonal event title “Andre Rieu’s 2025 Christmas Concert: Merry Christmas,” and Dreamz Entertainment’s Telugu-language motocross entry “Biker,” giving exhibitors a mix of family, genre, specialty and holiday-themed programming heading into the holiday season.
