Man in China Gets Compensated by Former Company Who Fired Him For Napping at Work

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

We’ve seen some incredible stories of people getting fired for the most unbelievable reasons, such as the woman who got fired for refusing to buy breakfast for her boss.

In a similar fashion, a man in China recently lost his job after he was fired for napping while at work.

According to the South China Morning Post, Zhang, a former employee at a chemical company, was fired for taking a one-hour nap after working late the previous day.

Zhang’s employer described his nap as a “serious breach of the company’s zero-tolerance discipline policy.”

However, Zhang took his former employer to court, claiming his dismissal was unfair. In evaluating the case, Taixing People’s Court judge Ju Qi agreed and said that while employers can terminate workers for violating regulations, specific conditions must be met.

The judge said this did not include sleeping on the job, which, in Zhang’s case, was a first-time offence that caused no serious harm to the company.

Meanwhile, Ju Qi also said that Zhang’s dismissal over a single infraction was excessive, considering his 20-year tenure marked by outstanding performance, promotions, and salary raises.

The court ruled in Zhang’s favour, ordering his former employer to pay him 350,000 yuan (RM215,863).
