“Not all Gen Z are lazy”- M’sian Student Juggles Assignments In Between Part-Time Shifts to Cover Her Expenses

by · WORLD OF BUZZ

A hardworking student in Negeri Sembilan is proving that dedication and grit are very much alive among today’s youth.

In a viral post on Threads, local cafe Kopi & Kueh shared a heartwarming tribute to their part-time staff member, Kiba, praising her inspiring work ethic and determination to balance both work and studies.

“Not all Gen Z are lazy, guys. This is our part-time staff, Kiba. Right after finishing class, she comes straight in for her evening shift and even finishes her assignments here,“ the post read.

Juggling studies & part-time shifts

The cafe’s management shared with WORLD OF BUZZ that Kiba hails from Tangkak, Johor. She currently lives in a rented house in Port Dickson while pursuing her Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Politeknik Port Dickson.

To manage her living expenses and pocket money without placing an extra financial burden on her family, she actively seeks out part-time shifts.

Speaking to WORLD OF BUZZ, the cafe management shared that Kiba mostly works on weekends, but frequently requests extra shifts whenever she has a free evening after classes.

Photos captured at the cafe show Kiba sitting outdoors in her work uniform, diligently working through dense engineering formulas and handwritten notes in her workbook right before starting her shift.

Advice for fellow working students: “Never forget your main goal”

Kiba’s dedication has resonated deeply with the cafe’s owner, who shared that they deeply understand the hustle of balancing work and education.

“My message to all the young students out there is that there are so many gig jobs they can do in their free time to earn pocket money to cover study expenses.
“Regardless of how hard the work is, don’t forget to complete all your assignments and projects because graduation is your main goal. I say this because I worked three jobs during my degree years to avoid troubling my middle-income parents for pocket money,” the cafe owner shared with WORLD OF BUZZ.
