by · WORLD OF BUZZ

Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim has helped raise RM100,000, with support from kind-hearted Malaysians, to help cover a patient’s cancer treatment costs.

In a Facebook post, Steven shared how he found out about Uncle Robert, a man who had been raising funds for his wife’s cancer treatment.

Malaysians raise over RM46,000 for Penang busker’s wife’s cancer treatment

After learning that Uncle Robert was raising money for his wife’s cancer treatment, Steven immediately asked his team to organise a mini concert at Jit Sin Independent High School, with just four days to prepare.

Uncle Robert, who has been busking in front of Gurney for years, is a familiar face among Penangites. The concert raised more than RM46,000, with Steven contributing the remaining balance to bring the total to RM100,000.

Steven also took a moment to thank everyone who attended Uncle Robert’s concert and contributed to the cause.

“Keep busking, Uncle Robert!”

Steven was also touched by seeing Uncle Robert smile throughout the concert despite the challenges he has been facing.

“Whether he has an audience of a thousand or just one person, Uncle Robert continues to play for the same person – the wife he loves. The sacrifice of a husband can be immense.
That’s the Uncle Robert we know from Gurney. He continues to smile and entertain us, even while carrying his own heavy burdens. I pray that his wife’s treatment goes smoothly. Keep entertaining us with your music and your love, Uncle. Keep busking, Uncle Robert!”
