Woman, 40s, arrested over fire at house in Cork city

Gardaí are investigating the cause of a fire which extensively damaged a two-storey house at College Road in Cork city.

A woman in her 40s was arrested at the scene and is being detained for questioning.

The alarm was raised at 1am.

Two units of Cork City Fire Service took more than two hours to bring the fire under control.

Four families were evacuated from the house. One man was taken to Cork University Hospital as a precaution, suffering from smoke inhalation.

The house has been sealed off and a technical examination is taking place.
