Yankees free agency targets: Top contact hitter would fill lineup need
· New York PostThe Post’s Dan Martin lists three free agency possibilities for the Yankees.
David Bednar, Closer
Bednar has been mostly outstanding since arriving in The Bronx in a deadline deal from the Pirates. Raisel Iglesias is another potential option if the Braves don’t re-sign him, as is Adrian Morejon.
Tyler Stephenson, Catcher
The Yankees need a right-handed catcher to pair with lefty-swinging Austin Wells after being unable to land one at the trade deadline. Stephenson, who had a .727 OPS with 15 homers in 411 at-bats with the Reds this season, is one of several options. Another potential target, the Twins’ Ryan Jeffers, could look for more playing time elsewhere.
Luis Arraez, Second base
Among the best contact hitters in the sport, Arraez was excellent with the Giants before struggling after a midseason trade to Philadelphia. Like fellow free agent Brandon Lowe of the Pirates, though, Arraez bats left-handed. The Yankees have liked Xavier Edwards, a switch-hitter, but they’d have to pull off a trade with the Marlins to get him.
