The pipsqueaks revolting against Schumer and Jeffries need a slapdown
· New York PostVarious lefties in Congress are trying to stop Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries from leading the Senate and House: We hope the new leaders make the ankle-biters pay for their temerity.
These two just delivered a massive victory for the party — after leaning left had sent it into the wilderness.
What ingratitude: Schumer sent about $30 million to help Abdul El-Sayed win Michigan, blasting Rep. Haley Stevens’ late defection over El-Sayed’s bigotry, yet the senator-elect still wants Chuck sidelined.
Texan James Talarico demands “new blood”; Minnesota’s Peggy Flanagan insists it’s “time for new leadership”; Maine’s Troy Jackson flat-out tells Schumer he’ll “support somebody else.”
Who’s their alternative, and what makes them think he or she could command a majority of the caucus? Crickets.
Similarly out to block Jeffries’ rise to House speaker come January are radical Reps.-elect like Darializa Avila Chevalier and Claire Valdez, claiming he’s out of touch on Israel, big-money politics and socialized medicine.
He even voted for a resolution honoring (just-assassinated) Charlie Kirk, while Schumer crossed the aisle with a handful of Dems to avert (another) government shutdown last October.
This is the thought-police left: No one’s allowed to be decent, principled or practical if it gets in the way of the revolution.
Then again, the Democratic Socialists are on record wanting to trash the Supreme Court and Senate, junking the Constitution to move the nation all the faster to a permanently DSA-run future.
Voters handed Dems control on Tuesday out of frustration with living costs, economic uncertainty and corruption: Schumer and Jeffries need to focus on delivering on those fronts, not the agenda of a handful of urban elitists.
Indeed, they’d be wise to make the noxious newbies pay some price for their petulance — the very worst offices and committee assignments, for starters.
The right way to handle such tantrums is, if not a spanking, then a solid time-out.
