Make a (sand)wish: These delish recipes were made by kids with critical illnesses
· New York PostChildren with critical illnesses are taking a bite out of success.
No. 1 best-selling loaf bread brand Nature’s Own just launched a multi-platform campaign featuring a digital cookbook filled with Make-A-Wish kids’ favorite sandwich recipes. Expect delicious bites derived from the children’s own imaginations. For example, Olivia, who suffers from lymphoma, came up with the Bright Harvest Bacon Bite on Nature’s Own Honey Wheat.
The “Sandwishes” campaign is part of the brand’s “Slice of Hope” partnership with the organization.
“Nature’s Own is bringing wish kids’ imaginations to life with ‘Sandwishes’ that anyone can share, recreate and enjoy,” Krystle Farlow, senior director of brand management for Nature’s Own, said in a statement. “These recipes are not only a window into Make-A-Wish kids’ imaginations, but a perfect way for parents to better understand what their kids will enjoy as well.”
Nature’s Own x Make-A-Wish ‘Sandwishes’ Campaign
Among the enjoyable recipes in this digital cookbook is Luke’s Mediterranean Magic Melt sandwich, featuring Nature’s Own Honey Wheat, tomato, feta cheese, buffalo mozzarella, Swiss cheese and white American cheese. The child’s wish was granted following his leukemia diagnosis.
Nash, who also has leukemia, crafted the Swiss Thunder “Herowich:” Nature’s Own Honey Wheat with ham, apple slices and Swiss cheese.
Leslie Motter, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish America, expressed: “We’re grateful to Nature’s Own for helping bring our wish kids’ creativity to life in such a joyful, accessible way. Through the Sandwishes campaign, families can connect with the imagination behind each wish while helping Make-A-Wish deliver hope and joy to children with critical illnesses. Partnerships like this make it possible for us to reach more children and families with the life-changing power of a wish.”
Lila, who has a blood disorder, made the Green Garden “Glowwich,” a mix of avocado spread, Swiss cheese, tomato and pesto on Nature’s Own Honey Wheat bread.
Eliana, who suffers from kidney disease, came up with the Banana Boost Super Swirl, featuring strawberry jelly, strawberries, banana and hazelnut spread on Nature’s Own Butterbread.
The recent collaboration is an extension of Nature’s Own’s initial $500,000 Make-A-Wish sponsorship, which kicked off in 2025. Last year, they installed in-store displays with a virtual “Well Wish Wall” for shoppers to submit well wishes to the sick kids.
One of the companies’ biggest supporters is John Cena, who was named “Breaducator” in launching simpler recipes with up to 38% fewer ingredients than before. The WWE star also happens to be the largest wish granter in the history of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, with a whopping 650 wishes granted.
