I'm an organised Christmas shopper and here are Amazon's best big toy deals for Prime Day

October is the best time to start that Christmas shopping and Amazon's Big Deals day is the perfect opportunity to lock down some of those bigger presents while they're at a discounted price

I start shopping for Christmas straight after my son's birthday at the end of September. I wouldn't even consider this very organised or advanced, it leaves just three pay days before the big day after all.

I have found that spreading the cost of Christmas over three months works for me. But it also means I get to take advantage of big sale and toy events which tend to start in September.

Amazon Prime Day is spread over October 8 and 9, and is one of the best opportunities to get those big Christmas presents locked in. This is closely followed by Aldi's wooden toy event on Thursday October 10. Argos are also expected to slash the prices of toys ahead of the big shopping season, but they currently have a two-for-£15 toy deal, while parents can take advantage of Smyths money off deal which is running until October 9.

But as Amazon's big deals days kicks off, here are the retailer's best big toy deals:

1. Barbie Dream House

This Barbie Dream House is the newest addition from Mattel and was launched last year alongside Margot Robbie's Barbie Movie. The house usually retails at £349.99, and is slashed to an amazing £166 on Amazon Prime Day. It is currently priced at £169.99 on Smyths. Reviews however do warn how "big" the toy is, adding it is "brilliant for a Barbie fan."

Alternatively, the older model which is a little different, but is also made up of three stories with a slide and pool area, has been reduced from £349.99 to £208.67.

2. Barbie Dream Camper

This Barbie Dream camper is the perfect alternative to those who don't have the room for the Barbie Dream House. It comes with a slide and a pool area. It also has a mini kitchen with accesories and a pop up shower room that really emulates real life play.

It is priced at £54.99 on John Lewis. The same one has been reduced to £47.49 from £129.99 on Amazon Prime Day deals.

3. Hot Wheels City Ultimate Garage Playset

If you are looking for an equally humongous toy to take up your living room, but focused on cars, not dolls, this Hot Wheels City Ultimate Garage Playset could be the one. The garage can park 100 cars and comes with race tracks and a moving T-Rex, and includes two toy cars. The RRP is usually £283.72, but Amazon have slashed the price to £51 this Amazon Prime Day.

4. LEGO Icons Ghostbusters car

For the collectors and movie fans out there, this LEGO Icons Ghostbusters car is a great purchase, reduced to £153.89 from a RRP of £209.99. This is a collectible model for display, so great for the older kids who can spend hours building Lego creations. Another one for the movie fans is this LEGO Star Wars Captain Rex Helmet set, reduced to £42.69 from £59.99.

5. Fisher-Price Little People Toddler Playset Disney Princess Magical Lights & Dancing Castle Musical Toy

This super cute Disney castle from Fisher-Price is perfect for those babies around the 18 months mark. It comes with two Princess figures - Jasmin and Cinderella - and has interactive light up features. It has been reduced from £54.99 to £37.99 for Prime day.

Alternatively, The Entertainer have halved the price of this Happyland Fairy Tale Fantasy Palace Playset, from £59.99 to £29.99.

6. Toniebox starter set

One of the top toys each year for the last several years has been a Toniebox. Great for children of all ages, though those under three should be supervised, the Toniebox is a brilliant device to spark your child's imagination as they listen to some of their favourite character's tell their stories. This purple Toniebox is reduced to £63.96 this Prime Day, from the RRP of £79.95.

7. Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie Aircraft Carrier HQ

For the Paw Patrol lovers, this aircraft carrier has been massively reduced from £129.99 down to £79.48. It comes with action figure Chase and a Mighty Pups Cruiser. It has a number of interactive elements and you can also get additional cars to go with it.

8. Mattel Disney Princess Magical Adventures Castle

This Disney Princess castle is inspired by magical moments in Disney movies. It is four feet tall and includes ten different play areas. It includes 28 pieces of furniture and accessories but you'll have to purchase the dolls separately. The castle has been reduced from £219.99 down to £151.99.
