Described as a 'walking hut', the cottage is actually Grade II listed, awarded by Cadw in 1999 as a 'a well-preserved example of a very small vernacular dwelling type, characteristic of this former quarrying area'.

Probably built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, the cottage is thought to be typical of the encroachment in upland waste areas which was taking place at that time, associated with the growth of a dual economy in the quarrying regions of upland Snowdonia.

Built of large greenstone rubble with a slate roof, at the time of the listing, the single-storey building comprised two rooms with gable stacks and lean-to on the north end.

In 2026 it's a pretty and surprisingly spacious off-grid cottage with a floorplan of lounge diner, kitchen, bathroom, ground floor double bedroom and a crog loft currently laid out as another bedroom but not marketed as such due it not complying with building regulations - this space under the roof would also make the cosiest of reading nooks.
