At the most wonderful time of the year there's nothing better than visiting a decorated historic manor house for all the festive feels. Luckily there's a beautiful property in Newport that's opening late tonight for your last chance to see the trees and dazzling decorations before Christmas Day.

Grand Tredegar House is one of the architectural wonders of Wales and one of the most significant late 17th-century houses in the British Isles. Situated on 90 acres of glorious gardens and parkland, the delightful red-brick house provides an ideal setting for a festive day out with the family.

The house has a special late-night opening tonight, December 23, until 7:30pm, so you can squeeze a visit in before Santa arrives. Read our reporter's review here.

For history lovers there's plenty here to discover while admiring the lights and trees. According to the National Trust, the large house was home to one of the most distinguished Welsh families, the Morgans, later Lords Tredegar, for over 500 years.

At this time of year, you can also discover 500 years of Christmas at Tredegar House, where shimmering lights and a magical atmosphere bring history to life.

Explore changing Christmas traditions and find out how the festive season has been celebrated from Tudor times to the 1950s, when Tredegar House was a school. To truly see the lights sparkle, visit during ‘Late Nights,’ when the property is open later and beautifully lit.

See the house and gardens glisten with over 100 Christmas trees, thousands of twinkling lights, and a giant 250-year-old Cedar tree that shines brightly.

The Brewhouse café will also be open, so you can soak up the atmosphere while enjoying a cup of mulled wine or hot chocolate and one of the many tasty treats available.

On selected days in December, don’t miss grumpy old Scrooge as he wanders through the house grumbling about festive fun - but fear not, Father Christmas will also be roaming the grounds to greet visitors on the nice list.

Stay: Near Tredegar House, you'll find the Celtic Manor Resort, an ideal destination for a festive spa getaway. Newport’s landmark, five-star resort sits on 200 acres of parklands and comprises luxurious hotels, self-catering lodges, two spas, multiple restaurants, championship golf courses and amazing spa facilities.
