ADP: Private sector added 44,000 jobs in July; slower than expected
· UPIAug. 5 (UPI) -- Private-sector hiring totaled 44,000 in July, a significant drop from the previous month, payroll firm ADP said Wednesday.
Hiring for the month had been forecasted to hit 75,000 after reaching 95,000 in June, the company's latest report said.
People who switched jobs saw a 7% increase in their pay, the largest gains since August 2025.
Those who stayed in their jobs saw their pay increase at a steady 4.4%.
"Job-changers are highly sensitive to real-time economic conditions, and their rapid pay growth implies supply constraints in parts of the labor market," Nela Richardson, chief economist at ADP chief economist, said in a statement.
"Typical hiring patterns, meanwhile, are changing as employers react to shifting macroeconomic conditions," Richardson added.
Employment gain was the slowest since January, CNBC reported.
Most private-sector hiring happened in service industries, where 47,000 jobs were added. Education and health services accounted for 36,000 of those jobs.
The U.S. region with most openings was the Northeast, which added 37,000 jobs.
The Midwest lost the most, with a 9,000 decrease in openings.
